Go to office and it offers the wrong credentials and logs in! FFS.. I can only think to remove the cached windows profile next (which is drastic, I have to backup desktop stuff)... If this turns out to be an edge sync issue, it'll return. Did I miss anything?! Chrome Browser - Forcing on 'Turn on Sync'Fri, 25 Apr 2025 09:19:23 +0000 Possibly a stupid question and I can see a few reasons why this doesn't appear to be possible, but I'm sick of staff moaning at me when their profiles have been deleted (reimaged PC usually) and they didn't turn sync on (despite being instructed numerous times) meaning lost bookmarks etc. Other than a GPO to enforce browser sign in, are people aware of a GPO of workspace setting that can force users to turn sync on in Google Chrome? I cannot find anything out there, but figured someone here might have found a way. Thanks! Photopea: Web-Based Image EditorFri, 25 Apr 2025 08:41:08 +0000 Hello All, Our ICT department is looking at using Photopea for image editing. This is web-based software - interestingly, it seems to run (mostly) in the browser, and is available as an embedable, customisable HTML/Javascript object. We are aiming to use it alongside Google Classroom - setting the children an exercise in Classroom with some example images to work with, using the "Create a copy for each pupil" option for those files. When we do that, Classroom creates a shortcut in an appropriate folder in each user's Google Drive. However, Photopea doesn't seem to follow shortcuts - it just sees an empty folder. We can get it to open standard image files from Google Drive okay, just not shortcuts. Has anyone else come accross this problem, did you find a solution? I've emailed Photopea support, has anyone else had much experience with them? Is anyone else using Photopea on a regular basis? It does seem pretty neat, the way it's packaged. Chrome - blocking internal IP addressesFri, 25 Apr 2025 08:16:59 +0000 Hi I have a couple students who have decided they want to keep trying internal IP addresses in the 10 and 172 range in Chrome. Any way of stopping in this? I know you can block individual URLs in chrome GPO but I don't think you can do subnets? Any ideas anyone please? 24H2 + HP Pro Mini 400 G9. NIC disconnects, doesn't reconnect.Thu, 24 Apr 2025 14:31:27 +0000 Yup, it's an "has anyone else had this?" post. We have a batch of HP Pro Mini 400s and we've put 24H2 on them. They have the latest (as of 2 weeks ago when I rebuilt the driver stores) firmware and drivers. We've tested 24H2 on these and various other bits of hardware lying around to iron out any quirks......or so we thought. Some of them (1-2 in a room of 31) will quietly drop the network connection and not resume it while they're actively being used. The switch doesn't log anything (disconnect, for example) or bad traffic on the port. There's no pattern so far on when it happens. They're connected to Aruba switching (gig PoE+, loop-protect and spanning-tree on) and the patch leads in the rooms have been inspected and replaced as part of the refit. Testing the network jacks shows no issues. Symptoms are dropping the network connection (no lights next to the NIC) and not re-establishing the connection until either the ethernet cable is unplugged and re-inserted or (in one case yesterday afternoon) a USB > Ethernet convertor is used (to save a student's work) and then the onboard NIC starts working. We're working through Any BIOS setting we missed 24H2's power-saving options (NIC sleeping etc) Known issues for driver / BIOS release notes Event logs on the device Whether it happens just for the onboard NIC or whether it can affect all NICs (USB > Ethernet convertor). My suspicion is a an overly-aggressive power-saving setting somewhere, but I'd expect it to be more widespread if that was the case. Windows 11 Hiding buttons in Quick ActionsThu, 24 Apr 2025 10:58:03 +0000 Hi, Has anyone been able to hide options in quick actions in Windows 11? We are trying to hide WiFi and Airplane mode to stop students playing around with the options. I know that I can hide it per user by clicking on the edit at the bottom and it creates a registry key in the below: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Quick Actions\Control Center\Unpinned But if I try to deploy this registry through GPO on the login it breaks the quick actions and stops them from opening for a while and then it will automatically clear out the keys created and go back to default. Thanks, Nova T NCC helpThu, 24 Apr 2025 10:51:28 +0000 Hi all, I am trying to add the NCC for a Non Working Day (NWD). The issue I have is I’ve added our split lunches to the model and an extra lesson to that the staff and learners can clearly see the break. However, I’ve tried the letters to match the hours and it won’t give me a NWD over the whole thing? This is only my second time doing the timetable so still all very new. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!!!! Best Wishes Ally Google classroom sync toolsThu, 24 Apr 2025 09:18:28 +0000 Hi all Locker had an issue recently regarding classroom sync as Google changed their APIs without telling them, causing duplicated classes. I'm wondering if anyone had similar issues with either Wonde or Salamander? This was just before the Easter break. Thanks Filtering for children in a non-school environmentThu, 24 Apr 2025 09:05:23 +0000 We are going to host under-eighteens as part of their T-Level course and have been asked to provide computer/network access to them. I'm assuming that as it's part of their course and more than a supervised work-experience placement, then we are subject to the same rules as secondary schools/sixth-form institutions. I'd be grateful if anyone could share any experience they have of this scenario. Assuming I need a filtering solution: I can't imagine that any network level controls will be considered - this will be a handful of users out of >100k users and a complex network, some of which is controlled at a corporate level and some of which is managed by divisional network teams. I'm therefore looking at client level controls. Our Windows clients are Windows Active Directory domain managed and our Apple devices are Jamf managed. We could limit logins to specific clients and prevent access to our 365 tenancy. We also have access to Entra AD Intune only managed devices, but they have corporate policies which I can't customise. Any suggestions welcome (other than don't do it - that ship has already sailed). HP Proiant DL360 Gen - PCIe Auxiliary PowerThu, 24 Apr 2025 08:48:07 +0000 We have 3x HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 servers, two of which were spec'd out for virtualisation hosts and the third was a physical DC, with limited RAM, single CPU and lacking network expansions. We have moved the DC to virtual, freeing up that server and sourced some refurbished components for the server, to bring it in line spec wise with the other two DL360s. This included purchasing a HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560SFP+ Adapter and a HPE StoreFabric SN1000Q 16GB 2-port PCIe Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter. I've installed them and noticed that the PCIe daughter board has a 6-pin power connector and it got me wondering whether I need to connect auxiliary power or not. If I recall correctly, PCIe usually delivers 75W through a slot (though I'm thinking of consumer boards). I can't turn off one of the other servers to open it up to check how that is configured. While I think this is for more powerful expansion cards, such as a graphics card, I don't think I'd need it for these NICs, though I just wanted to see if I can get a second opinion. LLM's pass the Turing testThu, 24 Apr 2025 08:41:35 +0000 Thought I would post the link to the actual study as opposed to any of the various news articles waxing lyrical and sometimes hysterical in response to the reports findings. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2503.23674 It is an interesting study and does say a lot about how convincing these new AI models are becoming.. but it also points out a flaw in the Turing tests premise. In that it isn't really testing to see if an AI is actually intelligent, more that is it convincing enough to fool our primitive meat brains into thinking we are conversing with someone real. Unable to open Publisher FilesWed, 23 Apr 2025 21:28:21 +0000 Hi all Has anyone ever had an issue with Microsoft Publisher 2019 where a user cannot open the publisher files they download on their laptops. Publisher opens however it then changes to not responding and will either crash or take upto 10 mins to open. This only seems to happen on the users laptops and only when they are connected to the network, if they access the file via of the offline files cache they can open it. Here’s what I’ve done so far: I installed GCPW using the official MSI downloaded from the Google Workspace Admin console. I have Google Chrome properly installed on the machine. During Windows startup, I see the "Sign in with Google" option and I'm able to enter my Google Workspace credentials. The login appears to go through, but after entering my credentials, the system gets stuck on the "Sign in to your work account" screen and never proceeds to the desktop. I've tried restarting the PC, reinstalling GCPW, and made sure Chrome is set as the default browser. The issue persists. Has anyone encountered this issue before, or is there something specific I should check in the setup? Downloading pictures in Outlook - security risk or not?Wed, 23 Apr 2025 14:50:54 +0000 I received an email from a colleague (and therefore the same domain) with the key content in a picture. The image was blocked and although I could download, I would have thought being from an internal source, it would be fine. So I raised the topic with our out-sourced support and proposed we had a company wide solution, not one for me to close the ticket! Various nonsensical moves ultimately resulted in the issue going to 3rd line support. I have just received the following comment: "...whether there is a problem with all images showing if we set things up that way?". Also, "There is little impact, security or otherwise, of having images download for all....whether internal or external". I've replied with a link to a MS statement as to why the default is not to download images. For awareness, this is in desktop Outlook as part of M365. Your comments and insights are welcomed. Should the school I work for get Senso Enterprise - Advice neededWed, 23 Apr 2025 14:48:27 +0000 Hello all, I work for an independent school that is looking to move away from a physical server to a cloud based system as we are expanding to another site which is located in a separate building so we need to manage the IT of both sites from one ideally. We were recommended by our external IT Support team to get Senso but I have been reading online that it isn't very reliable. A lot of these posts are over a year old though so I am unsure if this has improved at all. We are looking at the Senso Enterprise as we are after both a Filtering and Monitoring system and a Classroom Management tool. From those with experience with Senso - Has it improved over the past year? Is the Filtering and Monitoring system good? Is the Classroom Management tool good? Are there any other features that stand out with Senso? Is there support team good? What's the most common issue you face with Senso? We are booking in a demo with them so we can see it for ourselves but I am very aware we will get the sales pitch. I would like people to separate their views on the Filtering and Monitoring system and the Classroom Management tool please as if one is good and the other isn't that could still be a viable option for us. Thanks for your help with this. Sharepoint - Microsoft List - HelpdeskWed, 23 Apr 2025 13:28:49 +0000 Does anyone else use Sharepoint / Microsoft Lists as a helpdesk? I've just created one & have it all setup for testing, however running into an issue. I'm adjusting the item-level permissions on the list so that general users can't see each others tickets. This works great, however doing so breaks any Automate/flow rules which were setup for ticket email notifications. Is there a way I can have the permissions set so that users can't see eachothers tickets, while still also having the Automate rules working?
